There has been another attempt to destabilise the Western Cape’s railway service.

Metrorail says there has been an attempted theft and vandalism on an Eskom cable that feeds electricity to the Main Traction substation that powers the trains. It adds that this is the same line that was deliberately cut by criminals during load shedding on Monday.

The latest attack forced the cancellation of trains travelling from Cape Town to Muizenberg on Thursday evening. Trains had to stop at Retreat Station.

Metrorail’s acting regional manager Kaparo Molefi says this is blatant sabotage which will not be tolerated. Molefi says they will be engaging Eskom and law enforcement so that an investigation is conducted into this sabotage.
