Constitutional Court Candidate List Ruling Disrupts IEC Election Preparations

The Constitutional Court ruling on the ANC candidate lists have disrupted the IEC’s preparations for the upcoming November 4th Local Government Elections.

Electoral Commission Chairperson, Moso Moepya says the commission will now have to print an extra 6.6 million ballots to comply with the court order.

On Friday, Moepya revealed that 27 million of the 33 million required ballots have already been printed after printing was delayed in the six municipalities directly affected by the ANC’s court appeal.

The IEC has since reopened the nomination process to parties who had not finalised their submissions following the Constitutional Court ruling that opened the door for 181 candidates belonging to the ANC to be included.
