The Cape of Good Hope SPCA, led by Inspector Trevor Rodney and the Inspectorate team, has executed a court order to remove 13 animals where nine dogs and four cats from a property in Silvertown following serious and ongoing animal welfare concerns.
The person responsible for the animals reportedly described themselves as an animal rescuer. However, the SPCA says that taking on the role of an animal rescuer comes with the responsibility of providing animals with appropriate care and living conditions.
According to the SPCA, inspectors had been engaging with the owner for some time, with multiple warnings issued and opportunities provided to address the concerns. After the warnings were not complied with, the matter was escalated and the SPCA approached the court, obtaining an order authorising the removal of the animals.
Three of the dogs were admitted with visible veterinary concerns. Two were found with growths, while another had an extremely matted coat and appeared to be limping. The remaining animals are undergoing further veterinary assessments at the SPCA’s animal hospital.
The SPCA says the removal was necessary after continued concerns about the animals’ welfare.The rescued animals will now receive veterinary attention and further assessment as the SPCA works to determine their individual needs.
