US President-elect Joe Biden has promised immediate action to contain the country’s Covid-19 outbreak, indicating that science would dominate the national response once US President Donald Trump leaves office.

The United States remains the epicentre for Covid-19 with more than 9.9 million recorded cases.

Biden announced his plan to combat the pandemic during his first acceptance speech against Trump. Biden says he will appoint a group of leading scientists and experts as transition advisors to help take the Biden-Harris plan and convert into an actual blueprint starting next year.

“I will spare no effort, none, or any commitment, to turn about this pandemic,” Biden said as he delivered his victory speech.

The task force will be led by former surgeon-general Vivek Murthy and former Food and Drug Administration commissioner David Kessler.

The virus has infected 9.8-million people in the US and killed more than 237,000 people as daily case counts continue to rise.
