At least 6300 people have been affected by Cape Town’s heavy downpours. Spokesperson for the MEC on Environmental Affairs James Brent-Styan says more than 5750 illegal shacks have been flooded in the metro.

Officials are continuing to assess other low-lying areas that could be impacted by the heavy rains. Support is being offered to affected communities, such as milling, hot meals, and blankets. Cape Town’s cold front is expected to worsen over the next few days.
