Members of the Khulumani Support Group have been protesting at Constitutional Hill for nine days calling on government to make good on the promised Apartheid reparations.

The group’s Judy Seidmann says that the Truth and Reconciliation Commission had recognised 17 000 people as certified victims of Apartheid.

She says however, that this number is far higher.

But despite the TRC’s recommendations in the late 90s, many victims have been left destitute.

Seidmann says that some have only been given a R30 000 once off payment, which isn’t enough to cover a lifetime of Apartheid damage.
