All emergency response systems have been activated in KwaZulu-Natal following heavy downpours that saw several areas being flooded again in the province.

Last month, the province experienced its worst ever flood disaster that resulted in billions of rands of infrastructural damage. Nearly 450 people died during last month’s flood disaster.

Spokesperson for the KZN department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Lunga Mtshali says government has convened the inter-ministerial committee on disaster with all ministers to establish interventions to the floods.

Cogta is also assessing the damages for national government to come up with a comprehensive plan on how to deal with the disaster.

The South African Weather Service has issued a level 10 weather warning for disruptive rainfall for parts of the KZN region.
