African Union (AU) Controversially Grants Israel Observer Status

SHARE

After nearly two decades of campaigning, Apartheid-Israel has been granted observer status at the Africa Union (AU). To officiate the move, the occupation entity’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Burundi, and Chad Aleli Admasu presented his credential to the AU Commission’s chair Moussa Faki Mahamat.

While Israel has celebrated the move, it was not welcomed by all AU counterparts. The AU has since come under fire for not helping Palestinians in their anti-colonialism struggle. In recent years, several African countries have deepened their ties with the Israeli settler-colonial regime despite talks of being pro-Palestinian.
