Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) has vowed to assert more pressure National Treasury in the coming months to blacklist suppliers who cost the state millions in corrupt practices and non-delivery of services. On Wednesday, SCOPA took stock of its performance to date.
SCOPA Chairperson Songezo Zibi says that the committee will seek to work with Parliament’s Portfolio Committee’s to ensure there is follow through on its recommendations.
Responding to criticism from several MPs that SCOPA certainly had bark, but little bite to ensure consequences for the irregularities it’s picking up, Zibi noted that there is no doubt it has been effective in keeping a watch over the public purse but acknowledged that it is perhaps taking on too much.
