The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms expected to affect parts of the Western Cape on Wednesday.
The warning is valid for the Saldanha Bay area, southern parts of the West Coast, Cape Winelands and the Overberg districts. Forecasters say a cut-off low pressure system developing over western South Africa is expected to trigger the adverse weather conditions.
The thunderstorms could bring large amounts of small hail, excessive lightning and strong gusty winds. Residents have been warned of possible localized power disruptions and service interruptions. There is also a risk of injuries, property damage and isolated fire incidents linked to lightning strikes.
