Seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of the Gauteng health department’s acting chief financial officer, Babita Deokaran.

The Office of the National Police Commissioner indicates that the suspects were apprehended in a joint takedown operation at their hideouts in Johannesburg.

Two firearms and two vehicles were recovered.

Deokaran was gunned down outside her home on Monday. It’s suspected that her murder was a hit. She was one of the Special Investigating Unit’s witnesses in the R300 million protective personal equipment (PPE) tender fraud case.

The Hawks have since takeover Deokaran’s murder case. Police commissioner General Khehla Sitole says he is confident the Hawks will work tirelessly to ensure that justice is served.
