Whistle-blower killed: More Protection Needed

SHARE

Whistleblowers in South Africa aren’t receiving the necessary protection from the state they deserve.

Whistleblowers House made the call after the execution-style killing of government whistle-blower Babita Deokaran who was the Chief Director of Financial Accounting at the Gauteng Health Department.

Deokaran was a key witness and whistle-blower in various investigations into fraud and corruption, most notably tenders linked to Covid-19.

In April 2021, President Cyril Ramaphosa stated that whistle-blowers have not had a great time in our country and promised them more protection.

Now, the Whistleblowers House has called on Ramaphosa to fulfill his promise.

Guest: Liezl Groenewald, Founding Director of The Whistleblowers House and Senior Manager at The Ethics Institute
