Western Cape Police have made several arrests in separate operations targeting illegal firearms and drugs.
Members of the Anti-Gang Unit conducted an intelligence-driven operation in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain, yesterday. While on patrol they spotted a man running towards the back of a house. Police saw the suspect drop an object before apprehending him. They found a .38 Special revolver loaded with ammunition at the scene. The 20-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He is expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court once formally charged.
In an unrelated incident, Operation Lockdown III members searched a premises in Duncan Road, in Parow. During the search, officers discovered 60 mandrax tablets hidden behind a cupboard in the dining room. An adult woman was arrested on a charge of possession of drugs.
Meanwhile, police also searched a house in Haarlem Street, Langa. There, officers seized quantities of tik, cocaine, ecstasy and mandrax, along with cash believed to be proceeds of crime. A man was arrested for dealing in drugs following the discovery. He is due to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court once he has been charged.
