Two gang members convicted for the murder of pregnant woman

Two men have been sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2020 murder of a pregnant woman in Kraaifontein.

Jeremiah Fortuin and Ricardo Cloete, both linked to the Ferodo gang, faced several charges linked to the murder of Shahieda Nathan. The 21-year-old woman was caught in gang cross fire when Fortuin opened fire on a shack in Klipbok Street, which is believed to be a Ferodo gang stronghold.

The Western Cape High Court heard that Fortuin fired on the shack, believing that it housed members of the rival Mobsters gang.

Nathan was an innocent victim who was inside the shack with six other people at the time of the shooting.

Both men have been identified as repeat offenders, with criminal records dating back to the 1990s, with multiple opportunities for rehabilitation but instead chose a life of crime.
