The Phala Phala controversy threatens democratic processes

Since the release of the Section 89 independent panel report, critics have highlighted several issues whereby President Cyril Ramaphosa has not just violated the Constitution, but also how the entire Phala Phala scandal is a direct attack on the country’s constitutional order. Some criticized President Ramaphosa for acting as if he is above the law. However, the independent panel’s report has clarified that despite the president’s actions, he indeed has a case to answer to – meaning that he is not above the law.
