South Africans Set to Get New Tool to Stop Unwanted Marketing

South Africans could soon have a new way to block unwanted marketing calls and messages.

The National Consumer Commission is preparing to launch an Opt-Out Registry, which will allow consumers to indicate that they do not want to receive direct marketing.

The registry will be linked to the Consumer Protection Act and will allow consumers to create personal profiles and manage their marketing preferences.

The Commission is engaging industry stakeholders and technology partners as preparations continue to make the system accessible to consumers across the country.

The initiative is aimed at giving South Africans greater control over unsolicited marketing and strengthening consumer protection.
