There is no clear reason for the high cost of housing and properties in Cape Town. Inclusive Economic Development distinguished research fellow at the Human Science Research Council, Professor Ivan Turok says that the number of rich foreigners buying up property could be one of the contributors to the price disparities. But he contends that the greater concern is the high demand for housing in the municipality. The City has one of the highest property values in South Africa. But Turok says that this can be addressed through increasing the supply of housing to meet the public’s demands.
