One person has reportedly been killed as police clashed with protesting Wits students. However, police have not officially confirmed the fatality. Police have fired rubber bullets and used teargas on a group of Wits University students who are protesting over fees in central Johannesburg. The students are demanding that Wits allows all students with outstanding debt to register for the 2021 academic year, saying many were unable to pay as a result of the economic losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
