The army may need to be deployed for the upcoming local government elections in some areas.

Police Minister Bheki Cele says the province’s likely to see the SANDF deployment on Election Day include KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, and the Western Cape.

He was speaking during visits to families of three women who were shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in Inanda during an ANC gathering at the weekend.

Minister Cele notes that the elections cannot be compromised and that the budget for security deployment would first need to be found before the proposal gets finalised.
