SANBS Still Battling With Blood Shortage

The South African Blood Service (SANBS) is still battling with blood shortages.

Medical director at SANBS Dr Karin Van Den Berg says blood stocks were low and that the current three and half-day supply was not an accurate representation of the situation at hand.

During the third wave of Covid-19, hospitals required more blood. But now that the Covid-19 wave is easing and the resumption of elective surgeries, blood supplies are more in demand.

The blood service has called on all eligible donors – vaccinated or not to come and donate blood.
