The South African Federation of Trade Union (SAFTU) has urged South Africans to reject any attempts to “nullify” the electoral outcome and to “delegitimize” the Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC) work.

SAFTU General-Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi says the union’s call however, is not disregarding the alleged acts of crookery that is speculated to have taken place in the elections which prompted several contesting parties to voice their objections to the results.

Vavi has appealed to the electoral commission to address the complaints from parties on a case-to-case basis from affected voting districts, and not drag the country backwards by calling for a re-vote.
