SA Arming Riyadh’s Attacks on Yemen

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have together become the single largest market for South African arms exports.

Over the past three years, more than a third of the value from our exports have gone to those countries. This, as Riyadh and the UAE have been engaged in brutal attacks on the Yemeni population for several years.

Non-profit organisation Open Secrets and the Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC) have launched an urgent application in the North Gauteng High Court, seeking the names of all permit holders authorised to export arms to Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

The two organisations have called for a review of these decisions by the National Conventional Arms Control Committee.

This as the impact of the Saudi attacks have blocked imports, including some aid from gaining entry to Yemen.
