Ravensmead police are investigating cases of attempted murder, attacking police, public violence, and intimidation, following an altercation this morning.

According to police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk, disgruntled members of the community had demanded alcohol that had been confiscated during an anti-crime operation.

The liquor was found abandoned in an alley in Ravensmead.

A total of ten suspects have been arrested, aged between 20 and 54 in connection with several charges.

They are due to appear before the Bellville Magistrates’ Court once charged, and more arrests are expected.

Van Wyk says that a 44-year-old police sergeant’s head was grazed by a bullet, while a LEAP officer was wounded in his leg and taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Reinforcements were deployed in the area to monitor the situation.
