There has been a decline in the number of reported rape cases in South Africa.

The latest crime statistics however show that schools have become hot spots for sexual violence.

Most of the incidents have been committed by learners.

These cases contributed to the more than 9 200 cases of rape reported countrywide between April and June.

And in another concerning development, KwaZulu-Natal’s Inanda police station has recorded most of these cases.

The police’s head of crime research, Norman Sekhukhune, says that there have recorded seven murders at schools and two murders at tertiary institutions during the first quarter.

This as there were 55 rapes at schools, five at special schools, and three at tertiary.
