The country’s rail network will not be privatised.

This is the assertion of Deputy Director General of Rail Transport Ngwako Makaepea.

He was speaking as the Transport Department has released a White Paper on the National Rail Policy.

It’s expected to renew reforms to be introduced in the sector and allow the private sector to make use of the rail network.

Makaepea says that the department is only looking at bringing the private sector on board as an additional funding source.

He insists that government will remain in control of the rail network, even if the private sector helps to build it.
