Police crack Gauteng kidnapping syndicate

Six men believed to be part of a kidnapping syndicate terrorising business owners in Gauteng have been apprehended.

A multidisciplinary team that included members of the police’s Crime Intelligence made the breakthrough. They raided several premises in parts of Gauteng including Jeppe, Helderwyk, Brackenhurst and Daveyton.

A businessman, who was kidnapped earlier this month was found at one of these sites.

High performance powered vehicles, 20 cellphone’s and 30 portable GPS tracking devices were among the items seized.

According to police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe the syndicate has been under surveillance and have already been linked to more than 16 cases of kidnappings where demands for ransom have been made.

National Police Chief, General Fannie Masemola has commended officers for infiltrating and apprehending these criminals. He says it sends a clear message that police are coming for all criminals adding that they either hand themselves in and make their lives easier, or police will fetch them.
