Two leading South African news publications has reported that petrochemical giant, Shell intends on exiting South Africa. According to the Sunday Times and City Press who cited sources linked to Shell’s BEE partner in South Africa – Thebe Investments, the global group will divest its 72% stake in Shell down south.

This resulted in conflict with Thebe Investments over the value of its remaining 28 percent stake in the company. Over the last few years, the petrochemical giant has been facing massive opposition by environmental activists for its plans to conduct seismic surveys to explore for gas.
