The Justice and Correctional Services portfolio committee meets for a two-day inquiry into the escape of murderer and rapist, Thabo Bester.

It had to postponed the session last week due to private security company, G4S, failing to pitch. The company is contracted to run the security of the Mangaung Maximum Security facility.

Bester, and his partner, Dr Nandipha Magudumana have been apprehended by Tanzanian authorities, and will likely be deported to South Africa this week. This as a former G4S security guard and Magudumana’s father have been charged for allegedly helping the couple.

Members of Parliament want answers from G4S to explain how Bester was allowed to conduct his elaborate escape from prison.

It’s alleged that there were several people involved to help him set fire to his cell, obtain the body that was used as a decoy, and to help Bester leave the maximum-security facility.
