Zandile Mafe is due back in the Cape Town Regional Court on February 11, to appeal today’s decision not to grant him bail.

He was arrested for allegedly setting fire to Parliament on January 2.

Magistrate Michelle Adams had found that Mafe’s testimony during his bail hearing had some bearing to the information contained in the investigating officer’s affidavit.

Mafe’s alleged confession will only be tested once the trial gets underway.

He faces charges of housebreaking, theft, arson, and terrorism.

His defence team has insisted that he is innocent and is being used as a scapegoat.
