Work is underway to determine the cause of the Johannesburg CBD blast.

At least one person was killed and nearly 50 others injured.

Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi says the body of a man was found under vehicles at the scene. He is yet to be identified. Twelve of the injured are also still in hospital.

Egoli Gas has said that its unlikely their network or any gas pipeline leak was the cause of Wednesday evening’s blast. It maintains that its network experienced no pressure loss which points to the gas pipelines being intact.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud bang and seeing people and vehicles in the air. A section of road was ripped apart.
