The World Health Organisation (WHO) says the new Covid-19 variant found in Britain is not out of control. Chief of Emergencies at the WHO Dr Michale Ryan says the world has experienced a much higher contamination rate at different points in the pandemic. However, Ryan stressed that this new variant cannot be left to its own devices.

The new Covid-19 variant has shown to have a faster rate of transmission and targets younger persons. Roughly 30 countries shut their borders to people travelling from Britain or South Africa where another variant has emerged – the SARS-CoV-2 or 501.v2 to stop any further spread.
