The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has a new chairperson.

Senior KZN legislature and former ANC Youth League deputy chair Siboniso Duma has unseated Sihle Zikalala – who is also the Premier, in what was regarded as a tight race.

Duma received 930 votes compared to Zikalala’s 665 ballots.

Other new top leadership positions were also announced, including Nomagugu Simelane – the only female official as deputy chair, Bheki Mtolo as provincial secretary and Sipho Hlomuka who returns to his previous role as deputy secretary.

In the lead up to ANC Policy Conference later this week, the outcomes of the KZN elections are another clean sweep for the party.
