Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) President Shaykh Irafaan Abrahams is seeking the suspension of the body’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is scheduled for September 23.

In an application to the high court (dated September 5, 2023), Abrahams claims that this early AGM is aimed at removing him from office.

His term officially ends in 2026.

His court papers allude to an earlier concern about alleged financial misconduct within the MJC; he however claims that no disciplinary action had been taken against him in regards to these concerns.

The matter is expected to be heard on September 21.

Radio 786 approached the MJC regarding the claims made in the court application.

They are expected to “issue a statement soon”.
