4.7 Magnitude earthquake hits parts of Gauteng

Some Gauteng residents were woken up by a 4.7 magnitude tremor in East Rand.

According to the Council of Geoscience, the earthquake occurred during the pre-dawn hours – shortly after 02h30 this morning near Alberton.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) also recorded the quake.

Residents described the quake as a “moving train”, while others reported seeing the walls of their home shake.
