Cape Town’s iconic Table Mountain is undergoing its annual maintenance, with SANParks teams working across trails, safety infrastructure and conservation areas. Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) Managing Director, Wahida Parker, says that the maintenance should be completed by Saturday, with the mountain set to reopen as normal on Monday for the upcoming Women’s Day public holiday.
“At the present moment we are installing the heel rope, which is one of the rope’s on the cable car operates, but besides from that, there are lots of other work that’s happening in the environment. We are refurbishing spaces, we are improving area’s that get tired over time considering that we have a lick of paint here, restoring something over there. Making it so much better when the visitor come back to visit us.” – Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company Managing Director, Wahida Parker.
According to the Executive Technical Manager, Adries de Vries this year’s priorities included changing the cables in which the Cable Cars operate in order to ensure that visitors have a smooth and safe journey while they travel Table Mountain.
TMACC says that the timing is important to make sure one of the 7 Wonders of Nature is in top condition for the more than one million visitors expected in the coming months.
The public is urged to obey signage and stay on designated paths while work wraps up this week.
