Langa Residents Demand An Overhaul of Local Police Station

Langa residents are demanding an overhaul of their local police station.

They have noted that their complaints which range from officers being corrupt, to having a bad attitude to officers drinking on the job have fallen on deaf ears.

The Langa Community Advice Services Office’s, Anele Gqasana says they have tried to get the attention of the Western Cape police management but this has resulted in no change. Only this month a detective allegedly assaulted the station commander Diedre Engelbrech.

There are apparently divisions between the management and staff. The SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has since held a stakeholder engagement on policing challenges in the area.
