Three separate fires have gripped the Langa community over the weekend.

Last night, City Fire and Rescue Services responded to a call in Joe Slovo. An estimated 300 structures were damaged leaving roughly 1200 people displaced. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Earlier yesterday morning, two other fires were reported. The first claimed the life of a man at the corner of Quinebe and Winnie Mandela Roads. Eight structures were destroyed in that fire.

The second was reported in Zone 27 along the railway line near Epping Station that destroyed 15 informal structures. No injuries have been reported.

The City of Cape Town has since established a Joint Operations Centre on site in Langa, following yesterday’s three separate fires.
