The impact of drug abuse has once again been highlighted in Cape Town.

A Khayelitsha mother has admitted that she had no choice but to stab her 19-year-old son after he allegedly attacked her and her children while in a drug-crazed state.

The mother, Monalisa Dyubeni, now faces possible arrest after police opened a preliminary docket against her for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Dyubeni claims that after the traumatic event, she waited more than 12 hours for police to respond to her distress call.

This is reminiscent of the Ellen Pakkies case, in which she had killed her drug addict son, who terrorised and robbed her for years to feed his addiction.
