Police are keeping a close watch on Ocean View following this weekend’s sporadic violence linked to criminal gangs. Spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa says reinforcements have been sent after a 25-year-old man believed to be a gang leader was gunned down. His brother was also shot and wounded. Hours later in an alleged retaliation, a group of men torched two vehicles and tried to get hold of a man that had jumped from the window of his house. An informal dwelling was damaged during the attack.

Police say a 23-year-old suspect who was part of the group was arrested after he was found with a home-made firearm and ammunition. A 19-year-old was also nabbed for setting alight one of the vehicles. Meanwhile, two people are being questioned in connection with the Saturday murder. Potelwa says their detectives are investigating cases of murder, attempted murder as well as malicious damage to property.
