JP Smith: Nyanga Bus Vandals will be Brought to Book

The pilot safety project for Golden Arrow buses will recommence following today’s attacks on their vehicles in Nyanga.

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith says that the project was initiated to ensure commuter safety from robbers.

He says that the plain clothes and uniformed officers on the buses reduced the problem. Smith was speaking as this morning’s torching and stoning of buses has caused significant damage, and Golden Arrow had to continue operations from Nyanga’s police station.

It’s alleged that the latest torching of a bus and a bakkie was carried out by irate taxi operators.

Transport MEC, Daylin Mitchell says that the acts of violence may be linked to the impounding of several taxis in Nyanga yesterday.
