Human trafficking also is known as modern-day slavery continues to this day. Traffickers don’t look any different from an ordinary person, making them all the more dangerous. In most cases, they target children and young girls who are then subjected to exploitation and crimes such as sexual abuse.

In recent months, the hashtag #SaveOurChildren made the rounds with parents and activists calling for an end to child exploitation and trafficking. The most recent bust saw 46 children being rescued from an internal trafficking network in Australia. The victims were aged between 16 months and 15-years.

To discuss the extent of human trafficking in South Africa as well as separate fact from fiction we are joined by Cornel Viljoen. She is the A21 Reach Coordinator for A21 South Africa – a group advocating against human trafficking.
