The head of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, Kamal Kharrazi says the Islamic Republic will give a calculated response to the recent assassination of a senior nuclear scientist.

The head of the Iranian Defense Ministry’s Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, was targeted in a multi-pronged terrorist attack by a number of assailants in Absard city of Tehran Province’s Damavand County on Friday.

Two days after the assassination, Iran’s Intelligence Ministry released a short statement, announcing that its agents have come across clues about who was behind the attack. The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, the country’s nuclear agency, has noted Israeli involvement in both the assassination and a July incident at Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility.

This as the New York Times has reported that an American official and two other intelligence officials had confirmed Israel was behind the targeted killing.
