Injured police constable in New Somerset Hospital shooting dies

The 32-year-old police constable who was shot and injured in yesterday’s Somerset Hospital shooting has succumbed to his injuries.

The constable, who was based at Sea Point police station had been guarding another patient when he responded to a commotion in another part of the hospital.

The shooter, who was also a patient at the hospital, was ready to be discharged disarmed the officer, killing two other people. Sea Point police had brought a 35-year-old suspect to the hospital for medical attention.

The shooter as since been arrested.

This takes the New Somerset Hospital death toll to three.
