Since the start of 2022, South Africans have been slapped with one price increase after price increase on all basic services and goods. The electricity tariff hike, skyrocketing petrol increases and now the inflated cost for food. Adding to this, the South African Reserve Bank has increased the country’s repo rate by 25 basis points. These increases mean that a new home loan of R 2 million at the prime rate, will result in a monthly payment increase by around R 300. How can South Africans navigate the increased cost of living?
