President Cyril Ramaphosa did not want to risk being fired from his post if he spoke out against the state capture during his South Africans can breathe easier as indoor mask wearing has ended.

Restrictions on gatherings as well as border checks for Covid-19 including one’s vaccination status have been dropped.

Health Minister Joe Phaahla repealed these regulations through a notice in the Government Gazette. These rules had fallen under the Regulations Relating to the Surveillance and the Control of Notifiable Medical Conditions.

The minister’s move comes as people have adapted to the presence of Covid-19 as another disease. Both natural and vaccine immunity is also in play.
