The energy regulator, Nersa, says that it will work to balance the interests of the public and Eskom.

It follows yet another application for an energy tariff hike.

The country is enduring Stage 5 load shedding until Thursday, and the economy is feeling the impact at every level. Nersa’s senior financial analyst, Dr Bongani Khonjelwayo says that they always crunch the numbers to assess the economic impact that a tariff hike will have on the State.

It comes as Eskom has asked for a total of R 979 billion over the next three financial years.

Meanwhile, the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse has urged the public to do their best in dissecting Eskom’s latest application.
