Gatesville informal traders relocation

SHARE

Proper public participation is not being practiced in the proposed relocation of informal traders in Gatesville. This is the contestation of the acting spokesperson of the Gatesville Informal Traders Association, Imtiaz Shaikh.

He notes that the proposal to have traders who normally operate in the Hazel and Mavis Roads precinct, will drastically affect their income. The City of Cape Town’s Area Economic Development Department is reportedly finding ways to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 by relocating the informal traders.

But Shaikh says that the City is having separate meetings with role players, which defies the purpose of public participation.
