Gang Violence: Cape Flats betrayed by leaders

The past few weeks in Cape Town have proven particularly violent. From mass shootings to taxi violence, and the much-publicised attempted hijacking on three MPs, there are several questions about whether South Africa’s policing methods are working. Now contrasting this with what is happening in Washington – this city has seen a steady decline in crime. This is despite the claims of US President Donald Trump. So, what has contributed to this? And how can South Africa learn from these lessons?
