Acting Eskom CEO Calib Cassim says he doesn’t “lose sleep” over the possibility of a total blackout.

He made the comments while speaking on a panel at the Enlit Africa 2023 conference at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

Cassim was addressing concerns about the likelihood of a blackout as the country has been experiencing Stage 6 load shedding more than ever before.

He says the only time he will begin to lose sleep is when Stage 8 gets implemented because Eskom would need to manage that.

Cassim adds that the System Operator team tasked with ensuring that the grid is stable have the competence for the job and are making decisions “by the second”.
