Denel owes its workers a total of R500-million in outstanding salaries. However, it is unclear where the parastatal will get the funds to pay their workers.

Coordinator for the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), Mawonga Madolo says the union has been informed that the board is resolving the matter. Madolo adds that the situation is so critical that some workers have resorted to committing suicide.

NUM has now issued a letter of demand to Denel over the salary saga.
